Monteverdi, Claudio

Claudio Monteverdi (1567-1643), Italian composer, studied as a chorister at the cathedral, served the Duke of Mantua, and in Venice he was appointed the maestro di Cappelle of St. Mark's of Venice. He composed the first opera "d'Orfeo" which united the instrumental and vocal traditions, thus, he is called "The Father of Opera" today, he composed operas(La Favola d'Orfeo, L'Incroazone de Poppea), stage works, and sacred music.
